Is this Petechiae and should I be worried? (Tiny red dots)

by Pernicious, Dec 26, 2003 12:00AM
I am 26, Caucasian, Non-Smoker, Little overweight

I have been taking High Dosages of Tetracycline for a long period of time, to help with my bad acne.

Recently I have noticed tiny pinprick red dots on the outside of my upper arms which has made me concerned. I also seem have high levels of bacteria growing on my tounge. This is making me very worried.

I stopped taking tetracycline for fear that this was the cause and it seems that the dots are fading, and are not as pronounced. The bacteria has lessened on my tounge as well.

Could this be a reaction to taking tetracycline for a long time damaging my immune system? I plan on going to the doctor in a few days to check everything out.

I drink high amounts of Coffee / Caffiene which may or may not be relevant.

I have also been under very high stress from a few events that have happened in the past few months, christmas, and my girlfriend is expecting me to ask her to marry me. All these things are making me very stressed out.

I am unable to feel my stomach, Like if I am full or not, or hungry.

My urine and stools appear normal.

Thank you for reading my inquiry and hope that you will be able to answer my questions

As the old song says, "You're not sick, you're just in love."  Or at any rate I hope you are.  What you almost certainly aren't is ill: these symptoms don't add up to much of anything.  Please stay off the tetracycline, get yourself checked out by your doctor, and make the right decision.

Take care.

Thank you.

After being stressed out enough about it I went to the doctor yesterday. He said that it is nothing and it could be blocked sebacious glands, and that it should be nothing to worry about.

Thanks for making me feel better, and have a Happy New Year.
