Bumps on head of penis....

by slmbps, May 11, 2004 12:00AM
I was circumcised when I was 9 years old. I am now 28.  I have some scaring and bumps from the circumcision.  Supposedly, I picked at the stitches after the surgery while I was sleeping, causing the scaring.  They have never been a problem and barely noticeable when erect.

One day last year I tried to pick off one of the bumps.  I have a problem with picking at my skin.  I constantly pick at small bumps that I get on the back of my upper arms.  I know I shouldn't do it but it's one of those bad habits, like biting your fingernails.  Anyway, that was a bad idea.  It bleed and began to look rather gross.  I went to my doctor and he burnt it off.  While he was doing it, he mentioned that it looked like a wart.  I informed him that it couldn't have been because I have had it since I was a kid.  The only reason it had become a problem is because I tried picking it off.

Ever since that visit and him mentioning genital warts I have been nervous. I started to do a lot of reading on-line and began to examine myself constantly.  I eventually noticed a few small bumps on the head of my penis near the rim.  I also have one small white bump, looks like a pimple, on the back side near the urethra.  They don't look like any pictures I have seen on line but I got very nervous about them and made another appointment with my doctor.  He said it was nothing to worry about.  He said the white bump is a gland.  The other bumps that are flesh colored are just irritated skin not genital warts.

I have been monitoring myself, probably more than I should be.  Nothing has changed but my mind is playing tricks on me.  Some days the bumps seem smaller and other days larger.  My girlfriend has been to her gyno and there is nothing wrong with her.  I haven't had unprotected intercourse with anyone except my girlfriend. Although, I have had unprotected oral sex a few times with other women.

Basically these bumps are bothering me emotionally.  I was wondering if there is anything I can apply to them that may help them go away.  I have sex or masturbate almost every day.  Maybe that is causing the irritation.  I started applying neosporin in the morning and before bed to see if that helps.  Is there anything else I can do?  Should I see another doctor for a second opinion?

Yes, by all means get a second opinion.  Then forget about it.  Your situation is an object lesson in taking nothing and, with help, making it into something.  The history and description you give are not compatible with warts.  If you try to do surgery and so forth, you're likely to end up scarred.  Please get the reassurance you need and get on with it.

Take care.
