| . | i have some little red, raised bumps that have appeared on my arms and lower legs(calves). they itch horribly. they first appeared on the back side above my elbow and spread to my arms the first day and onto my legs the second. i went fishing the day before(exactly 24 hrs) these appeared. they seem to only be where my arms and legs where exposed that day. also i have been under a tremendous amount of stress, could either one of these have caused this. please help | Derm-M.D.-ASR 5/12/2005
| Bigfisher | Stress could be a factor, as could sun. I suggest getting an anti-itch lotion containing menthol (ask the druggist--these need no prescription), and applying it liberally and often, whenever it itches. If the rash persists, you should show it to a doctor.
Best.

| . | I have scalp and itching problems. I am hypothyroid. My hair and scalp are so very itchy that it is beyond annoying. Have been to demarmatologist ~ found that certain shampoos work better than others (use baby mild shampoos and no conditioners); also have applied vicks (the turpentine oil and menthol work great in relieving itch and also heal). I think also that when folks apply lotions, etc...they tend to overuse and overapply the stuff. Drinking lots of water, exercising, getting enough sleep, reducing itch factors (stress, clothes, etc.), and letting your doctor know is the way to go. Get help when needed; be your own best advocate; and let stress go...can't ever help you unless you act upon it in a positive way. Cold water applications also help; do not over bathe and use mild soaps. Works best for me and I am not a youngster. Best regards. God Bless. |
