Posted by Michael Walsh on August 09, 1999 at 13:12:10 If a person was willing & able to pay for possible extra cost(& temporary extra discomfort) of an Irrigation & Aspiration(I&A) to get rid of the secondary cataract opaqueness, would Henry Ford Eye Services be willing to proceed with such a process. A 1998 study shows that in 92 of 102 eyes at St. Polten, Austria I&A was successful. If the fibrosis was the only problem isn't this a reasonable alternative?
Posted by HFHS MD-JL on August 09, 1999 at 17:22:30 I am not personally familiar with the article. The standard of care would be to perform a YAG capsulotomy for opacified posterior capsules. Although no procedure is without risks, a capsulotomy is certainly a safe and effective treament and the risks assoc with an intraocular procedure such as irrigation and aspiration would most likely be higher. You may contact 3139162020 to speak to one of our cataract surgeons and see if they would be willing to entertain the idea. Good luck. This information was provided for educational purposes only.
