Posted by hfhs md - ni on August 27, 1999 at 17:51:57 AION is a ministroke of part of the optic nerve. This is not treatable though in some instances, it can improve on its own. It can be a marker of vascular disease such as hardening of the arteries and your internist may want to check you for this. Branch vein occlusions are also associated with vascular problems like high blood pressure. Vision reduced from a vein occlusion can also improve sometimes on its own and sometimes with laser treatments. It sounds like your ophthalmologist is taking good care of you and you should keep follow-up with him.
