Question Title: Blurring VisionForum: The Eye Care Forum

I started to notice blurring in my left eye about 2 months ago. I am short sighted and my left eye was blurry even reading close without eyeglasses. I went to see my eye doctor 3 times and he referred me to a retinologist and everything is fine. I also had a visual field test and it was OK. My doctor said I had mild cataract in both eyes, and it was not severe enough to cause the blurring in my left eye. But after all the checking my doctor could only conclude that it might be the cataract that is causing the problem. The only other discomfort I feel is a dull feeling above my eye or in the temple area. Sometimes it feel like a infection in my gum is causing the problem. But I don't have a gum infection. The doctor didn't took note of this at all. My left eye sometimes is so blurry that I practically is reading with my right eye. Sometimes the eye is not as blurring. The doctor asked me to come back for a recheck in 3 months. I don't know what to do now. The blurring in my left eye is really bothering me. Should I see other specialist to check if there is other problems? I am 52 years old and is taken cozaar/25 mg for high blood pressure. The only other thing was, I was on Dr. Atkins diet in 10/98 and 11/98 and lost about 18 lbs. Could this be the problem? Please advice. cathy cataracts are relatively straightforward to diagnose, but much more difficult to determine how much an effect they may be having on a patients vision. even very subtle, "early", cataracts may cause significant problems. given you are primarily complaining about reading vision i would guess you may have a type of cataract known as a posterior subcapsular cataract, which we see most often in your age group. given that all the other testing was fine, i would suggest that your ophthalmologist perform Glare Testing to see if your vision decreases in less then ideal lighting. and remember, when in doubt seek out a second opinion. good luck. key words: posterior subcapsular cataract, glare testing Disclaimer This information is provided for general medical education purposes only.
