My mother (50 yrs old) about a year ago had a laser surgery to cure bad vision. Now in the same eye she has had a retinal detachment. Pls advise on laser surgery_______ This sounds like a difficult clinical situation. It would be important to know why she initially received laser treatment for "bad vision". Retinal lasers can be used for treatment of diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears, bleeding associated with macular degeneration, and other situations. All of these conditions can be associated with bad vision. It would also be important to find out if the retinal detachment is related to macular degeneration - macular retinal detachment, or is this independent and represents a detachment associated with a tear - rhegmatogenous detachment. In many situations, repairing the retinal detachment will bring the vision back to a similar level before the detachment developed. Even if the vision is not quite as good it will likely restore some peripheral vision. I recommend you consider consulting another retinal specialist if you are not comfortable with just one opinion.
