Hi. I was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy on March 6, 1999 on the right side of my face which has resolved. At exactly the same time, my LEFT eyelid was drooping slightly. I ignored it for a few weeks. Then I started to have irritation in my left eye, burning, itchy, and also pain in my left eye. The burning is very bad in a store with flourescent lighting, sunlight does not bother it. Around the middle of April, I started to have pain and pressure behind the left eye. Also, I sometimes have a numbing feeling on the left side of my face. I am very depressed, I am 25 years old with a 3 year old daughter and a baby due in August. I am constantly using preservative free eyedrops. I have been to the opthamologist 4 times, he can find nothing wrong. I have been to a neurologist and had an MRI, that came back normal. I have been to a dentist, ENT, and an oral surgeon. nothing. I do not know what to do, but I can't take this anymore!!!!!! I have an appointment with a neuro-opth. this Thursday but I am left with little hope. Can you suggest anything? Thank you.

First of all, do not despair. It is good that you have had such a significant work up. It is also hard to make any additional comments without examining your eyes because it may be something subtle. I am pleased that you have an appointment with a neuro-ophthalmologist. Have you been checked for dry eye syndrome? This certainly may cause the burning that you are describing. It is also possible that your left eyelid may droop if you have a right sighted Bell's palsy to compensate for the inability to close the right eye. You can discuss this with the neuro ophthal. Good luck.
