Forum: The Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases Forum
Topic: Constipation

Recentyl, I talked with a friend who was telling me about individuals (usually elderely) that have a difficult time controlling bowel and urine release because of a lack of muscle control. Do you know of any studies and/or equipment to assist these individuals retrain their muscles for better management of their bladder, etc. He mentioned biofeedback or neurofeedback in the conversation. Your response is appreciated.

Dear Scott, Biofeedback is used for patients with bladder and bowel problems, It is necessary, however, to have intact sensory function. Laboratories that do anal-rectal motility studies will often do biofeedback training. Regarding Urology use of biofeedback, you should contact the Urology Forum
