Question Title: Views on Nissen FundoplicationForum: The Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases Forum
| ||||
My daughter is 8 years old, has cerebral palsy, and has been diagnosed with GERD and poor motility (PH probe done). She is presently on Ranitidine, Prepulsid and Losec. She still has pain with reflux even though she has been on Losec for 4 months. Her gastroenterologist strongly recommended a Nissen fundoplication. Our general surgeon contacted a fellow surgeon in another province for his views on the Nissen fundoplication for our daughter before doing the procedure. His views were that they were no longer doing Nissen's and found that they had high mortality rates associated with post-op complications (pneumonias) with these high risk children. They also found that they were undoing many fundoplications because of patients' compromised qualities of life. I need more viewpoints in order to rethink this whole situation, and make the best decision for my daughter. Can you shed some light? Thank you. Dear Marilyn, Unfortunately, the Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases Forum no longer has the availability of a pediatric gastroenterologist. You might want to post your message in the Maternal Child Forum.
