Question Title: I felt like my gallbladder grew back

Forum: The Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases Forum
Topic: Liver - General

For the past year or so I've felt off and on like my gallbladder grew back. I experinced bloating and discomfort after eating and in the past spring I started getting pain under my right ribcage after I would eat. When I went to the Doctor my ggt was elevated over 300. In repeat test it remained elevated. I had tests to rule out hepatitis and autoimmune disorders. I eventually had an ercp in which my doc saw sludge. HE stretched my bile duct with a balloon and made the opening bigger. What else can be done for this problem?

dear Jean,
Sometimes Actigall is given to patients who secrete a supersaturated bile. This medication limits the cholesterol in the bile preventing the development of sludge. It is also necessary to make certain that there are no narrowings of the bile duct that could cuase stasis of bile and precipitation. A repeat ERCP ( and sphincterotomy [cutting the opening of the bile duct]) may be needed.
