Question Title: General diet / HEP-C dignosed

Forum: The Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases Forum
Topic: Hepatitis

I have HEP-C, apparently for perhaps 20 - 30 years. Each morning I eat cooked Oatmeal with Wheat Germ / Oat Bran / Wheat Bran / Blackstrap Mollasses (has Iron) and Lecithin in it. About 10 grams of each with the single cup of cooked oatmeal. Do you feel there is any contraindication for any of the items I add to the oatmeal?

Thank you.

Will

Dear Will,

I don't see anything wrong with what you are adding to your oatmeal. Patients with chronic hepatitis C viral infection should avoid alcohol, unnecessary medications, excessive fat, excessive vitamin A and excessive iron. These can cause further liver damage. The important principle is to eat a healthy, well-balanced diet that provides adequate calories, protein, vitamins and minerals. I wish you the best of luck.
