Question Title: Having Gastritis, post Nissen x 3 weeks ago

Forum: The Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases Forum
Topic: Gastritis

Three weeks ago I had a Nissen Fundoplication for reflux. I have no reflux from what I can tell, but am having a lot of production of acid in my stomach and ulcer like symptoms with tenderness and discomfort in the pit of my stomach. I even get nauseated and have a little heartburn at times. This occurs after I have eaten. My surgeon seems to think that I have some gastritis going on and put me back on my Prilosec and wants to see how I am in a week. I have taken two doses of Prilosec and haven't had any relief. Last spring, when I was being evaluated by my GI doctor I had an EGD done and was diagnosed with H.Pylori Bacteria. I was placed on antibiotics for 10 days which consisted of Tetracycline, Flagyl, and Pepto Bismol tabs. Could this be a reoccurence of the H.pylori bacteria or can you get gastritis following this type of surgery and will it just take some time to get over it?

_____
Dear David,
If you still have H. pylori infection, it is conceivavle that you have had a recurrence of ulceration/inflammation. The regimen that you took for thr H. p. does not eradicate all infections. Alternatively, your symptoms are merely the result of the surgery and do not indicate gastric inflammation. If symptoms persist, you should discuss repeat endoscopy with your doctor.
