Question Title: Chest Pains

Forum: The Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases Forum
Topic: Digestive

I have been having chest pains and body weakness for the last two months. I first went to the doctor late early in september. He put me on Axid, he believed it to be gastritus. I had Side effects to the AXID, so he took me off of it and told me to take zantac75. This seemed to work for about a week. When I went back to the doctor again he did an EKG. The EKG was ok, he then put me on Zantac 150. Again this seemed to work for another week or so. I went to the doctor again and a blood test was taken for an ulser, it was negetave. THe doctor then took me off of zantac and put me on Prevacid. ( I am also on Accupril for blood pressure). This week the Pains have started again. What can this be, I am wondering if my doctor is in the right area? Can it be a heart or pulminary problem?

I am 26 215lbs 5'10"

Thanks Eric

Dear Eric,
Unless there is a family history of cardiac disease, i would not consider a cardiac cause for the pain. Since you have failed empiric therapy for gastrointestinal inflammation, you should have an appropriate evaluation to determine the cause of pain. As a first step an upper endoscopy is warranted.
