Question Title: Gastroparesis/Gastric Paresis

Forum: The Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases Forum
Topic: Digestive

I was diagnosed with gastric paresis about two weeks ago.
I suffer from nerve damage to my lower lumbar spine,
I have had two laminectomies, that the scar tissue has wrapped around the nerve endings in that area.
My question is, if the two could be ralated,
I know that the nerve endings on my spine at that level have to do with my stomach to a degree.
If this is so how can I know for sure, if this is the cause of my condition,
and if the treatment my doctor wants to put me in, will be a life time thing since the nerves do not generate.
And will it get worse with time.
Can you recomend a book or research that I can read about this.
Thank you.

Dear Sueyel,
Gastropresis results from functional abnormalities of the vagus nerve and is not related to impairment of the lower lumbar nerves. The most common identified causes for gastropareisi are diabetes mellitus, surgery to the vagus nerve, hypothyroidism, electrolyte abnormalities and some medications. Depending on the cause for your gastroparsis, treatment may not be lifetime.
