Question Title: Celiac Disease and Dental ProblemsForum: The Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases Forum
| |
Are you aware of any connection between Celiac Disease and Dental Problems. Four Years ago I was diagnosed as a Celiac and now have Many thanks FGoy Dear FGoy, Most of the clinical symptoms in patients wtih celiac sprue are due to malabsorption and nutrient deficiency. Bone disease such as osteoporosis is fairly common in celiac disease because of vitamin D and calcium deficiency. Part of the bone in teeth is the same type of bone found in the vertebrae and other areas of the body. It is possible that vitamin D and calcium deficiency are causing dental problems. Other nutrient deficiencies may also adversely affect the teeth. Examples include: Protein calorie malnutrition, Vitamin A deficiency, Phospohorus deficiency, Vitamin C deficiency, Fluoride deficiency and Iron deficiency.
