Question Title: :digestive problems after surgery (already posted in this forum)

In Nov.1990 my gallbladder was removed. Doctor suggested low fat diet. My question: How are the other adjacent organs affected after gallbladder removal? How are body processes changed or naturally adjusted. What long-term problems may be faced? Are there studies on the subject? I have found much material on gallbladder removal but little on how the body reacts in the years after surgery. I am now on a high protein/low carb diet and feel great for a change. But am concerned with what happens to the fat I am injesting on this diet with no gallbladder. How does the body function without it exactly?? Research at local library netted zero. Thank you so much in advance for your time, experience, and thoughtful reply. What would we do without our dedicated doctors. My gallbladder almost killed me!

Removal of the gall bladder does not affect the function of the adjacent structures. There may be some scarring related to the surgical manipulation but this scar does not cause clinical problems. You should not face any long term clinical problems secondary to gall bladder removal.

The gall bladder serves as a store house for bile between meals. After the gall bladder has been removed, bile circulates between the liver and intestine rather than remaining in the gall bladder.
