Question Title: elevated alt level coupled with unexplained rapid weight gain

Forum: The Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases Forum
Topic: Gastroenterology - General

IN '92 I weighed 269 pounds. At that point I decided to that I
needed to lose the fat. By Sep. of '98 I had come down to 205 w/
a 36" waist. I accomplished this through better eating habits
and exercise 3-5 times/week. In Sep. I was informed by a local
blood bank that my blood was rejected, after giving for years,
due to an ALT level of 152. While I did not seek medical
attention, I did not change my routine of exercise or good eating.
In spite of that, I have experienced a weight gain of 42 pounds
in the last 4 months. Obviously, this has me worried. In
addition, for the past 6 weeks I have had an alost constant urge
to urinate; but I only pass a few drops most of the time. What
I find even more strange is that I am very thirsy most of the
time. Subsequently, I drink at least 1.5 to 2 gallons of water a
day; however, my urine output doesn't seem to match my intake.
If somebody can make any sense out of this, please let me know.

Thank you,

James L.
