Indigestion and pain under lower left rib

by sixpick, Jun 08, 2001 12:00AM
I have constant pain under left bottom rib and armpit.  Feel like I have a very small pillow under my left arm when arm is resting down my side.  My left chest has become larger than my right side.  My breast is larger on my left.  Indigestion and bloating become worse after eatting just about anything.  I am very left handed and have attributed relaxed muscles since I am 51 years old, 5 feet 11 inches, and around 195 pounds.  I haven't been exercising like I should.  Although I have been walking one mile everything afternoon.  I do smoke and am planning to stop in the month of July, now being June.  I am large bone and don't appear too overweight.  My ideal weight seems to be around 180-185.  Sometimes the pain becomes almost unbearable, usually after eatting something and it doesn't seem to really matter what.  I usually have my least pain upon rising in the morning. I am very easily constipated and then it seems I'm just the opposite later.  I have to watch my dairy products as it seems after buying a George Foreman grill, ham and cheese sandwiches were just too easy to make.  In fact, the problem really got a good stronghold on me after several weeks of that.  I started eatting Fiber One recently hoping it would make the difference.  I continue to eat a little everyday and it helps my digestion, but my pain remains.  I'm aware of the bloating that would come from Fiber One especially initially.  It causes some as expected.  I have to eat something sometimes just too relieve the pain and shortly it comes back.  My concern is my mother passed away in 1982 with breast cancer and although I'm male the enlargement of my left side disturbs me.  No test have been done, no offense, but all the doctors I seem to run into are very much like a lot of the mechanics that have worked on my car.  They're not doing the job they're getting paid for.  I do have an appointment with an internal medicine doctor the 14th of June, this being June 8, 2001.  Thank before hand. cc

Thanks for giving me the oppurtunity to post a comment.

Two of the symptoms of the enlarged breasts in Males and the pain in the lower left side under the ribs may indicate liver disease.

Is it possible that you might have liver disease from drinking??

   Best of luck!!

I guess with a nickname like sixpick it would indicate sixpack, but no, I don't think so. I may drink a six pack in a year and very rarely drink anything else.  I was thinking the liver was primarily on the right side of the body.  I have an appointment in the morning with an internal medicine doctor, who may be able to find out what the problem is.  I was in the service overseas and do have the natural antibody for hepatitis.  Must have had contact in the asian countries in the 70's.

Hey sixpick -

Would like to know how your doing and if you found anything out.  I have the left sided and armpit pain also along w/a few other symptoms.  I'm thinking it might have to do w/my pancreas but all my blood work is normal.   I continue to keep pushing for answers with the doctors.  Let me know if you found anything out.
