please help!!!

Last night I finally gave into the pain after suffering for quite a while. I went into the ER and they gave me tests and concluded that I have gastritus. The doctor was very rude and made me feel insignificant. I have pains on both my upper abdominal sides and in the middle of my back. They gave me an ultrasound and found nothing. I am becoming very distraught. I know there is something wrong but I can not find any answers, if you can please help me !! here are my symptoms:

Doug,
While I understand your pont of view, I had to comment on what you said. I think that there is great validity in the fact that medicine is not an exact science. I have been a nurse for 12 years, working in a hospital and in management, and I know first hand that there are many times when "tests and physicians" have given improper and/or rash judgements/diagnosis. It is the nature of the field of medicine. Physicians, nurses, hospitals, etc. are all very busy and short staffed. Everyone wants to find the quickest, cheapest answer so that all people can be helped. THe unusual, or unexpected, is often overlooked because of this. Every individual who is pursuing medical care should be actively involved and educated. Every person should have the self-confidence and self-worth to find proper care. If they feel they have not recieved proper care and/or diagnosis, they should continue searching until they find the answers. I went to several specialists over many years until I received the proper diagnosis. Because what I had was not "by the book", I was given every diagnosis, including hypochondria. Once I found the right doctor who actually took the time to review everything, I had a diagnosis with in weeks. As you know, treating a condition is much easier once you know what it is. I have know many people who have had the same problems, especially undiagnosed abdominal pain, and have suffered tremendousley.
So while I respect your opinion, I want to encourage everyone who feels they have a medical problem that has not been adressed to their liking, to continue to search for the help they need. There are talented, compasionate physicians out there.

Doug,

I to apologize for my nasty remarks..please understand my frustration, I was in so much pain I finally went to the Er to find a docotor who didn't want to listen to me, who kept trying to tell me what I was feeling were muscle spasms, I waited hours worrying about my children to get no answers, and spend money we don't have, and to walk out feeling only humiliated and still hurting. I hope as a doctor you will treat patients with dignity and understanding as well as with respect. I also hope you can help us on this site to find answers........: )thankyou

I appologize. I am a practicing med student and try and use this forum to interject where I feel I have some actual knowledge, as well as test for myself. My hypochondria remark was not meant to insult, rather to give peace of mind to an individual who seems worried despite negative testing. Finally yes, you could say I am a hypochondriac...I think we all are...however sometimes we let it get the best of us and start casting frustrations towards the doctors. My comment was that they are only human and medicine has its limits. They run what they have been trained are appropriate tests for symptoms presented...when tests come back normal...what are they to do? You tell me... Example...you go to the doctor with terrible headaches convinced it is a brain tumor. He runs head MRI and head CT scan. Scans come back 100% normal...he tells you it is tension headache caused by stress. Is Dr. uncaring about your brain tumor...or is it possible that BASED ON THE TEST he can not treat your brain tumor because it does not exist? I think the individual is beter served given the option that he may have an issue of hypochondria rather than have someone fuel the flames by explaining how CT Scans and MRI's are not 100% accurate in detecting brain tumors and how he should seek second and third or even fourth opinions. Again my two cents and my appologies.

Hey Doug you sound like a man who know's all about the word
Hypochondria
! what do you think people could this be from experience LAUGH, LAUGH ;0O

Please refrain from placing your diagnose on others I know it is hard for you, but perhaps a quick trip to the HEAD DOCTOR might help for some new medication? I is odvious the old stuff
isn't working to good! You only get back what you dish out, or perhaps that is your game?

If you tell a doctor you are having a pain in a certain area...and they examine that area and find nothing out of the ordinary...then YES there may be something causing your pain but NO it is not something a doctor (whom in only human) can detect and treat. By the way, 75% of all visits to a doctors office are somitization or hypochondria type of visits...I would say pur youself in that category.

Good luck with an answer, I have had several test ran because my blood is low and they thought I could be hemorrhaging somewhere in my body nothing is found yet. I agree the doctors can be a little uncaring, maybe it's not important them on how we feel, but we know our bodies better than do and we know there's something wrong, so why can't they help. God did put them on this earth for some reason
