Army Green Stools, IBS, Brown Fuzzy Stools, Trapped Gas?

Hello,

About 6-7 years ago I was diagnosed with IBS, due to some stress I was having in my life at that time. I still have a problem with my bowel movements being loose, especially when I get nervous about something. My latest concern is the coloration of my stools. They vary from "army green" to a light brown with what looks like fuzz. I also had a stool that was brown and army green marble. I also experience some pain in the lower left side of my abdomen and I have to lay on my left side to relieve myself of any gas that feels "trapped" in my intestines. I also had light green "juice" with my last bowel movement. I am a little concerned that it might be an infection, but I don't want to go to the doctor and explain all of this and have him tell me I just have nerve problems and stick me on some nerve pills. If anyone has any advice or an idea as to what my problem might be I would greatly appreciate it. Thank-you!

it sounds as though you need a second opion then you would not have to worry about your present doctor under minding your condition .a person knows when something is not quite wright with their body . your symptom sound as though you could have some diverticulitis and if that is the case it could very well be infected the norm for that is they put you in the hospital for a few days on heavy antibioctics until it is under control, or you could have h pylori witch is a infection also in that case they just put you on several days treatment at home. in either case you would need to have test ran to be sure because a lot of digestive conditions can mimic one another.the colonoscopy has been the best proven test for digestive problems .find a good gastro /digestive doctor and let him know of the symptoms and talk to him about the test. also you may want to mention the upper scope to rule out any possible problems with your upper digestive area .they can do both test at the same time and you wont fill a thing because they put you under for it .you may have just a little discomfort afterwards but i doubt it .god bless

Mary Ann,

Would you please elaborate on the Colonoscopy procedure & ERCP (upper GI endoscopy)in terms of sedation and level of discomfort. Can you realistically say that you do not feel any pain or discomfort during either procedure? I have been referred for both the Colonoscopy and ERCP and and quite anxious about both. I am unable to have the back of my throat numbed because of an allergy to those numbing agents. Does the sedation actually work enough to erradicate pain? The idea of the colonoscopy is just too disturbing. I am worried that it must cause pain. Thank you in advance for your input. It is greatly appreciated. Summer

I just had both of those tests performed. I slept soundly during the whole procedure, and never felt a thing. Upon waking, I had a sore throat, but that was it. I think the worst part is the preparation for the colonoscopy, not the actual procedure. Have the tests done! Dont be scared, you wont feel a thing. It really is worth it to find out what is wrong and to have it fixed. All the best.
