diverticulitis and pregnancy

by maymay, Feb 01, 2002 12:00AM
The birth of my second son, 7 years ago, saw me labouring through many complications (e.g. haemorrhaging and subsequent blood transfusion). 18 months ago I was diagnosed with chronic diverticulitis (I had been misdiagnosed for many years due to my age - now 39).

Due to the complications of my last birth and chronic diverticulitis I was fully expecting to have a caesarean section for the arrival of my daughter in approx 5 weeks. However, my consultant recommends I do not have a section as parts of my large intestine may be fused to my uterus. If evident, this fusing would be due to bleeding of the diverticulitum, and could cause complications if caesarean section was to be carried out.

We have scoured the internet for any advice on chronic diverticulitis and pregnancy but have found, quite literally, no info on the subject. We expect this is due to the condition being almost invariably post-menopausal.

Can anyone please give any advice on this 'caesarean section' question? Any advice regarding chronic diverticulitis and pregnancy would also be warmly appreciated.

Thank you all, Mary
