Purchase some books to help learn about my chronic symptoms before my next G.I. appt:

50 ways to relieve Heartburn, reflux and Ulcers

No more heartburn  Both by M.D.

They offer tips for the natural way and what tests should have been done for a diagnosis.

Do you have any that helped ?

Hi Kari:

I have been reading your posts for the past couple of days and I am new to this site but I really must post a comment as I think you and I have many similar symptoms.  I have been suffering from chronic reflux since last November and probably before that if I remember correctly.  It has been a very stressful time for me so I think that is what caused the GI problems.

I've been on Nexium since Dec 21 but as of today I am off of it - I can't take the side effects.  Before that I was Losec but I don't think it did much good as far as shutting down the acid production.  I tried Zantac for a few days but it made me very sleepy, nauseaus and I had a wicked headache and dry mouth.

I have a knawing, burning pain in my upper abdomen, I have pains in my chest, under my ribs and up my back.  My food feels like it is sticking in my esophagus so I just feel lousy.  I've lost about 5 lb so far and I'm a very slim person to begin with so I can't afford to lose anymore.  I also burp constantly.  Do you  have that problem too?  I'm am getting very depressed about all this and scared too.  I'm scheduled for an upper GI and gall bladder ultrasound on Monday and I'm afraid of what they will find.

I bought a book by Sherry Rogers called No More Heartburn.  It's ok I guess.  She recommends DGL to coat the stomach and aloe vera juice to soothe the insides.  I don't find the aloe very juice did much good but I am going to get some DGL and try it.

I hope you start to feel better soon

Please let me know how the DGL does and We bought the same book, Reaching out to learn all we can in between our doctor appts, tests.

If someting could relieve the symptoms , so one could eat again then the worry stress would leave, Hard to be happy when you feel bad daily.

Appreciate your message , Have you tried Orange Peel extract for GERD ? Let us know about your tests and good luck

Thanks,

The books listed above talk about DGL or you can look up www.dr.weil.com for he describes it well too.

Let us know how it works for you.

Hi... I just wanted to post a little success story for you heartburn and reflux sufferers. My father used to have bad indigestion, reflux, and a slight hiatal hernia. His reflux esophagitis was so bad that it caused scar tissue to build up near the gastro-esophageal sphincter, and eventually the food would have trouble going down and sometimes it would even come back up. He would have to have a balloon dilation procedure every few years to open his esophagus back up so he could swallow. This all stemmed from too much acid production, basically. He has now been on Losec for a number of years and is doing much better. He also watches that he doesn't eat too much - especially at night, he sleeps with the head of his bed slightly elevated, and also gets plenty of exercise. But the Losec was really the key - I know it may not work for everyone, but happily it worked for my dad whose reflux problem was pretty severe.

Good luck to all of you.
