HAS ANYONE USED QUESTRAN LIGHT POST GALLBLADDER REMOVAL

by TOOTINA, Feb 16, 2002 12:00AM
IT HAS BEEN A YEAR TODAY THAT I HAD A LAP. GALLBLADDER REMOVAL.

I AM STILL HAVING TERRIBLE PAIN AFTER EATING ..DOES NOT MATTER WHAT TYPE OF FOOD. GASTRO DOC BELIEVES IT IS IBS AFTER MRCP,ERCP AND FINDING ONLY LARGELY DILATED DUCTS(HEPATIC,COMMON BILE AND PANCREATIC) AND NO ONE CAN EXPLAIN THIS. I HAVE NEVER HAD PROBLEMS WITH IBS SYMPTOMS BEFORE SURGERY AND I DO NOT NOW. SO, I WENT BACK TO MY GP AND SHE IS TRYING QUESTRAN LIGHT AFTER MEALS WHICH IS TO REDUCE BILE. AFTER A MONTH IT SEEMS TO BE HELPING ...NEXT STEP IS FOOD ENZYMES...BUT, SHE IS CONCERNED WHY THE DUCTS ARE SO DILATED A YEAR LATER...ANY IDEAS? MY SYMPTOMS ARE BACK PAIN UP THE RIGHT SIDE AFTER EATING ..ALSO I STILL CANNOT STAND LYING ON MY RIGHT SIDE..PAIN IS STILL OVER COMMON BILE DUCT. THANKS FOR ANY INPUT!!! IN ADDITION I HAVE LOST 40 LBS. BLOOD WORK IS NORMAL EXCEPT ELEVATED LIVER ALT. ALSO, I AM VERY ACTIVE WITH RIDING AT LEAST 8 MILES A DAY ON MY BIKE. SO, THE GASTRO DOC SAID I CANNOT BE THAT SICK IF I EXERCISE...ALSO HE SAID THE PAIN IN MY BACK COULD BE FIBROMYGELSIA...MY GP COULD NOT BELIEVE HE WOULD MAKE SUCH A COMMENT. THANKS AGAIN.

Your story sounds just like mine, except I've not lost any weight.  In April will be a year since I had surgery.  My doctor prescribed Questran Light for me.  Unfortunately, I've not had the prescription filled so I can't tell you anything about that.  But I'm all for the digestive enzymes.  I take those and they work great.  I've not had any "attacks" to speak of.  Maybe when the doctor gets you on the digestive enzymes things will get better.  Take care!

I have been talking Questran for almost 3 yrs. It has enabled me to live a fairly normal life after having my gall bladder removed. I didn;t have the pain that you are describing though I had diahreah from about 10:00 in the moring to 5:00 in the evening. I was really starting to wonder if I would be able to keep working. I tried a lot of things including dietary changes. It didn't help and I felt so sick during these attacks and they were pretty much everyday. The questran really has helped. There are some side affects but I have learned to deal with them. Gas and bloating and some constipation. I just vary the amounto f Questran i take. Good luck.
