help for severe constipation

by Moly, Feb 19, 2002 12:00AM
I have been diagnosed with IBS and severe tortousity of the colon.  I suffer from 'severe' constipation.  This might sound really graphic but I need some help.  I have not had an adequate BM in over three weeks.  I use 1 T citrucil every day and I also use 17g of Miralax every day with NO relief.  I also drink a 6 oz can of prune juice every morning.  One more thing, I used an enema on Saturday with NO relief.  I am passing gas but my BMs are in very small amounts, maybe once every other day.  They are also loose and smelly.  I pass gas several times an hour and after I drink I belch a lot.  I have very severe abdominal cramps.  My doctor prescribed an anticholinergic but one of the side effects is constipation so I haven't been using it.  HELP if you can.  Also, what would I look for if I had an obstruction high in the bowel?

Hasn't a Dr. suggested a colonoscopy yet??? Good grief!!!

You need to get to the bottom of this immediately!  Insist

that they take a look in there and find out what is going on

It is a totally painless procedure!!

Hi

My son at 5 days old completely obstructed and required surgery.

He is now almost 6 years old.

His symtoms were extreme pain, vomitting bile(green), distended

stomach and no bowel motions at all.

He still has problems now with constant constipation, soiling,

lack of appetite at times of loaded bowel, burping and swollowing

down vomitt. Sore legs when loaded, dizziness and lethargic.

I agree you do need help, You sound if you need an examination

of your bowel but they need to empty it first if possible.

My son gets regular bowell washouts through a nasal tube but

rest assured adults can drink a special drink tom get things

moving. Good luck and if you want to contact me, you can at
