The same thing happened to me after my lapchole. My gastro said since the bile doesn't have a storage place anymore (gallbladder), it dumps directly into your intestinal tract. Bile is very irritating to the digestive system in such large amounts. He put me on Questran which is a yellow powder you mix with water to bind the bile. It is not very flavorful, but I mix a pack of Splenda (sugar substitute) with it. This has helped. Also, my diarrhea slowed downed alot after a surgery where they cut adhesions from my ovaries and colon and put me on antibiotics. Hope this helps.
I had a cholecystectomy several years ago. I have not experienced the problems you describe on any chronic basis.
I do however have irritable bowel syndrome. That is when you
waiver from diarrhea to constipation, usually but from what I
understand it can lead to one or the other symptoms. If you are
experiencing severe abdominal pain/cramping, blood in stool -
either bright red or tarry black stools get to your doctor asap.
You may want to see your gastroenterologist, as he/she may find
it wise to do a diagnostic colonoscopy to rule out any acute or
chronic processes of the lower bowel. If YOU are concerned
and your Dr. is not, get another opinioon. You know your body
better than anyone else! Good luck.
P.S. You might want to watch-log your diet and bowel habits
it maybe helpful to you & your doctor to determine if
your diet (such as fatty foods) aggravate your symptoms.
What is a chole? I can't believe your surgeon doesnt' think constant diahrea is not a problem. Maybe you need a new doctor.
