constipation and hemorrhoids

by robyns, Mar 03, 2002 12:00AM
I have been suffering form mild constipation and hemorrhoids for a few months. I have no bleeding. I have tried many things to remedy the situation such as fiber, fiber supplements increased fluids (mostly water) and eating heathier in general. If I take fiber supplements my bowel movements have improved, If I don't take fiber supplements I have hard marble like bowel movements. My problems actually begin after I have any bowel movement (normal or hard) I get rectal pain that seems to intensify as the day goes on and I also feel weak and tired after the bowel movement. Sometimes I even feel that I have trouble breathing and cough alot. (don't know if there is a connection there or not)I have been to a surgeon who says there is no fissure, just hemorrhoids. I have an appt with a colon/rectal Dr. next week. I have been to a Gastro Dr. who recommended colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy. Also when my bowel movements are hard they have some sort of white specks in them. I can live with the constipation but I am wondering about the rectal pain and the weak feeling. If anyone understands these syptoms I would appreciate hearing from you. Thank you

I'm pleased to read that you have an appointment with a Colon/Rectal Surgeon.  I believe that you are moving in the right direction.  If you are really sore after a BM and would like to try something for relief, I highly suggest that you take a nice hot bath (as hot as you can stand).  Stay in there for about 20 minutes.  Then put some Nupercanal ointment on the area that is irritated.  This is like Preparation H but is much better.  It is an over the counter medication but you do have to ask your pharacist about it.  I believe it is $11 or $12 a tube.  But a tube will last you a long time.  This is what I was given after having Hemmrhoid surgery.  And it works really well. Best of luck to you.  Have a GREAT day!
