12 year old son in pain with no answers

by laurastouch, Apr 23, 2002 12:00AM
Justin is a 12 year old boy with complaints of constant pain in his chest right where the rib cage separates. yesterday we were in the emergency room with tightness in his chest right at the spot of his chronic pain. they did ekg, chest xray, blood work, all normal. he has seen a gastro dr. he has done 4 endoscopy, us of the spleen with no answers to his pain. he has problems swallowing will only eat soft foods. i feel at a loss, I can't seem to help him, no answers from drs. There response is "Maybe its not as bad as he thinks it is. When you see your child struggling with pain everyday with this kind of response it is very fustrating for Justin and myself. Any guidance would be helpful.

Laura, I know of a naturopath doctor who "might" know the answer.  If you are interested in their opinion, please email me at ***@****

Has he had any change in bowel habits? Did this start within 7 months of using antibiotics for a long period, or many different antibiotics for short periods? 12 year olds may be reluctant to report changes in bowels. If he has, tell your doctor to run test on some stool samples for things like bacterial infections.

Good Morning!  Perhaps you should take your son to see a Pediatric Gastrointerologist.  When it comes to kids sometimes the best thing to do is to take them to a Pediatric Specialist.  Because his symptoms are probably something most Adult Gastrointerologists don't see.  I don't know what else to tell you.  I hope they get to the root of his pain before too long.  I know what it is like to not feel good.  Take care and best of luck to you and Justin.
