19 yr old needs opinion or info

PLEASE HELP! I am a 19yr old girl+have had variable bowel movements for as long as I can remember. Have suffered severe lower abdominal cramps, followed by diarrea, sickness+passing out, on+off since age of 13, which at first were put down to menstruation.  However, for the last 3 years the cramps have been more often+more severe+accompanied with blood in my stools+not associated in any way with periods. Having ignored my families pleas to get checked out by a doctor, last wednesday(april24) I suffered the most severe onset of symptoms yet.  Having been fine all day I had a sudden onset of cramps, sickness and fainting,+was rushed to hospital by my boyfriend.  There I had continued pains and diarrea, followed by passing off blood throughout the night+the next morning. Later that day I had xrays+a colonoscopy but had no sedation +suffered extreme discomfort+the colonoscopy had to be ended after 40cm.  Some biopsies were taken which came back unremarkable although the doctor said he could see some erythema further up the bowel.  A stool sample showed I had the c. difficile bug+I was started on antibiotics for two days but then stopped as they decided I didnt have the bug after all.  After 3 days in hospital I was feeling fine and bowel movements were back to normal.  I was released after 6 nights. The hospital ruled out crohn's+IBS from the biopsies and decided I must have a mechanical problem such as a volvulus or intussusseption, +I am now left waiting4severe pains to come on again so as I can have an xray to see if this is correct. Had mild pains+diarrea lastnite. WORRIED!

You need to schedule yourself an appointment with a Colon/Rectal Specialist.  This is NOT something to be messing around with.  Best of luck to you.

Thanks. The hospital said when they sent me home on tuesday that they will arrange for me to have another colonoscopy as an out-patient in a few weeks time, and in the meantime I have to just wait for the pain to come on again and get myself to hospital for an xray straight away.  Before any diarrea!  But only if its another severe one as if its mild they think it would be pointless as if it is a twisting bowel it will be normal again by the time I reach hospital.  Its not much fun as I dont know when the pain is going to come on, and when it does im in no state to get myself to a hospital.  I just wish there could be an easier way of finding whats wrong without having to wait for another severe pain.

Hi Sarah:  Trust me when I say I know what you are going through.  I have just returned to work after my 4th surgery in that area.  I would not wait for the hospital to call you to do another colonoscopy.  I would find a Colon/Rectal Specialist and let him take charge of your treatment.  I just can't imagine why they would not give you anything when the did the colonoscopy.  Personally, I would not have agreed to that procedure being done without the necessary sedative.  What ever you decide to do, best of luck but please do yourself a favor and don't wait for another attack.  Get your records and seek the medical advise of a Colon/Rectal specialist.  Have a GREAT weekend.

Thanks for your advice, I'm thinking of going to another doctor for a second opinion as I'm not enjoying this waiting around for another pain.  I hope you are doing ok yourself now.  Do you mind me asking what they found wrong with you in the end?  Was it a mechanical problem such as a volvulus like they have suggested to me?

I am 21 years old and worry about everything. I have experienced some changes in bowl Movements I think. I itch and it burns sometimes. I wonder if I have hemmoroids or something more serious?

Hi Just,

Hemorrhoids could cause that or there are also a different number of other things, such as anusitis, condyloma, etc. I know there are some creams that would help with that. But if you are also noticing a change in bowel habits that could be from a change of diet. Should see a colon and rectal specialists to pinpoint the problem.

Have a great weekend!

Hello, I have had alot of medical problems with eleven surgeries. I would go and see if you have endometriosis it can cause some of your problems. I have had it since I was nineteen and it caused alot of stomach trouble.
