Blood in bowels and stomach pains

I am a 19 yr old female. I have had constipation problems for over ten years. Last year I started bleeding with my movements. My doctor told me it was my stool ripping the fatty tissue just on the inside of my colon(fishers?)I have had two incidents where the amount of blood really scared me- I mean just as much as a period. I have had a couple movements that had alot of mucus involved aswell. when my bowels move before a bowel movement I sometimes get such bad cramps I almost faint.

I have already tried monitoring my diet but can't find any links.

I have also had a very sensitive stomach for years,most incidents we thought It was food poisoning(sore, swollen stomach which got so bad I had to induce vomiting (the one case I didn't induce vomiting and passed out)which made it feel better but it was still sore and swollen)These symptoms would start around 8-12 hours after eating what it was that was upsetting my stomach -but the funny thing is that I wouldn't throw up anything I ate after that and noone else would get sick either. My stomach would continue to be sore for up to a month after.In the last 3 months I have had this happen twice. I don't think it is food poisoning, my mother wants me to find more info about colitis and irritable bowel syndrom. Any advice would be appreciated.

the cramping, constipation and mucus sounds like IBS...try taking Konsyl (it'a fiber) bought at any drugstore. that will make your bowel movements less painful.



the nausea and vomiting may be indicative of something else...either way you should get to a gastroenterologist for an accurate diagnosis and treatment program.

It sounds more like IBD than IBS.  In IBS you don't see mucus and/or blood.  Is the blood bright red?  If so, then it could be just a fissure and/or hemorroids.  The mucus is very indicative of Ulcerative Colitis, but still could be Crohns.  The only way to tell for sure is with a colonoscopy.  Stomach pain, vomiting and fever are signs of IBD as well.  I recommend you get to a talented IBD GI doc before it gets any worse.

Thanks for your input-Unfortunatly I don't know a whole lot about this, but yes the blood is bright red and my doctor did say it was a fissur- is a fissur what I described?

i just wanted u to know.....the mucus in your stool as well as the blood sounds just like colitis...i was just diagnosed with it...but u definetley need to have a colonoscopy done to be sure....dont play around...go have one done...so this way u can get the help u need...before i had the colonoscopy...i looked up everything i could...u dont get mucus with irritable bowel...mucus is one sign for sure of colitis..i used to also get so much pain i thought i would pass out....also if the  blood is red u know it is coming from the colon....not the stomach because it is bright red...when it comes from the stomach it is ususally very dark sometimes black.....because it takes that much longer to get through the intestine down through the colon and out....it turns black because of that. colitis is found very often in young adults...when u are having this problem..watch what u eat...try to stay away from milk products if they bother u..... and roughage...like lettuce...veggies that arent cooked....most people think that with colitis u can only have the runs....i didnt... i had constipation all the time...also if u stopped smoking recently that will sometimes bring on the colitis...dont ask why lol the dr told me that it has something to do with the nicotine....if u dont smoke now...dont start...anyway u take care...if u need to talk...write me at ***@**** its two zeros after the L in dinergirl nots o's

Hiya, I'm also 19 and have been having symptoms very similar to yourself.  If you scroll further down the list of posts you can read all that happened to me under "19year old needs opinion or info".  I'm still waiting for another colonoscopy to find out exactly whats up with me but its not fun waiting and I'm sure you know how it feels!  I too have had bad cramps and have passed out with them.  I always seem to be constipated but after the pains which usually make me vomit, I get bad diahorrea.  For the last year I've also been passing some blood sometimes and the last time the pain and amount of blood was so bad I ended up in hospital.  I kept blaming the pains on food poisoning like yourself even though none of my flatmates who'd eaten the same were ill!  I ended up spending a week in hospital getting all sorts of tests and they just sent me home none the wiser!  What they thinks going on with me is that my bowel is twisting sometimes, causing the constipation and pain, but they dont know for sure.  Ive just got to wait for the pain to come on again and get myself straight to hospital.  But only if its a very severe one as they think it will untwist by the time i get to hospital!  Its really getting me down as every little twinge in my stomach is panicking me! I hope you get things sorted yourself, and please let me know how you get on and anything they suggest to you might be the problem!

I'm 17 and have been having similar problems for a few years now. I had a number of tests when I was about 13 but nothing was found and as a result I was sent to see a dieticien instead as I was around 6 stone. I saw the dieticien until I reached 7 stone and then was told I could leave. Unfortunately the problem was not resolved and now i'm 8 1/2 stone and consistantly have constipation and a lot of the same problems of IBS but I also get a lot of bleeding varying from light red to a very dark red colour. On top of this I have no idea whats wrong with me but I don't know what to do about the matter!

Actually, mucus-stools are common with irritable bowel, I've been told so by doctors and have read so as well.  Blood, however, is not IBS.

I have had hemmoroids for years and have had alot of bleeding from the hemmoroids, but today really scared me i passed a very large blood clot, what should i do? HELP
