(Damn!) Gilbert's Syndrome: Alcohol § Supplementary Vitamins

by Lapharoscopy, May 24, 2002 12:00AM
I have the GS and my doctor told me everything about it and I also read about the body needs to work extra hard to ensure that the liver deals with bilirubin and extra toxins (sort of, all about the toxins are less easily dealt with by the liver and a person with Gilbert's Syndrome may have a yellowing of the skin and eyes, fatigue, weakness and loss of appetite (amongst other symptoms); BUT he didn't told me about the suppementary vitamins. I recently checked on the net about them (that's why i'm postin' this) and i notice that they help U a lot(Vitamins B complex, C, and Minerals- iron, zinc, magnesium and calcium)BUT, how useful are they?? Those kind of vitamins are safe enough??

Another doubt i have is about drinkin'. I used to drink a lot, until i notice the GS. I know anything which effects the liver needs careful consideration, BUT should i keep drinkin' a lot, because of my syndrome?? Of much does it will affect me if I get several liver complications??? (like cirrhosis or too much bile..)

I'll appreciate lot your answers.

Thanks a lot...

My doctor didn't even make the vitamin suggestion!  I also have that same exact concern about alcohol -- seems like we're playing with fire.
