Ache in lower left abdomen - IBS?

by briland, Jun 02, 2002 12:00AM
I just turned 25 this month.  I have been having a pressure-like ache on the lower left side of my abdomen.  It is pretty low down, closer to my public area than my belly button.  It started about a month and a half ago with the onset of diarrea and my period.  I have had an ultrasound and my doctor thinks its IBS but I'm unsure.  The pressure is there all day every day and makes it hard to concentrate sometimes.  I have been eating much better since this happened, fiber and lots of water, and I have been  having normal bowel movements, everyday, for probably the first time in my life.  I usually am constipated.  Sometimes I get twinges of pain.  The pain seems to come the day after I eat poorly but I'm not sure.  Could this pressure really be from IBS?  If it is, will I just have to live with it?  Thanks so much for any insight.

i HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH IBS, HOWEVER I DON'T THINK I HAD PRESSURE ALL THE TIME.  MINE USUALLY OCCURRED AFTER EATING GREASY OR SPICY FOODS OR WHEN I WAS TERRIBLY NERVOUS OR WORRIED.  I FINALLY ENCOURAGED MY DR TO DO A COLONOSCOPY TO RULE OUT COLON CANCER.  IT IS NOT AS BAD AS IT SOUNDS.  I WOULD QUESTION THE DR ABOUT HAVING ONE.  I WOULD RATHER YOU BE SAFE THAN SORRY.

IBS IS MOSTLY FROM STRESS, CAFFEINE AND NICOTINE.  IF YOU CUT OUT OR AT LEAST DOWN ON THE CAFFEINE THAT WILL MAKE A MAJOR DIFFERENCE.

DID YOU GO THROUGH BOUTS OF CONSTIPATION AND THEN DIARRHEA?  I SEEM TO HAVE MINE UNDER CONTROL, HOWEVER, IF I GET REALLY NERVOUS OR WORKED UP ABOUT SOMETHING, YOU CAN BE ASSURED I WILL EXPERIENCE THE IBS.
