Had the Doctor App't

by nanci, Jun 21, 2002 12:00AM
Went yesterday - this is what happened.  He reviewed my file from 4 yrs ago (last time I saw him) and said at that time, the biopsies showed mild reflux and mild gastritis.  I explained what was going on, telling him I am taking two 40mg Nexium per day and also explained my nervousness about losing weight (the nexium by the way are samples I got from another gastro doctor who is booked until mid July - that app't I need to cancel).  Presently, my weight fluctuates five lbs - I always seem to lose 3-4 lbs overnight, regardless of what I eat.  He said the fact that I wasn't continually losing makes him think it's not anything serious.  He did order a CT abdomen scan to rule out anything going on around the ab area.  He wants me to continue taking 2 Nexium until I feel better then drop down to one.  I told him that when I did this last week, I felt worse. He said I need to feel good for a week or so before I start decreasing dosage.  Also, taking two is fine even though I have major concerns about taking such a high dose.  He did say he wouldn't want me to take two long term but didn't say what long term was.  He ordered a scope but that's not until 7-29.  He added that if I felt absolutely wonderful by then, I wouldn't need to have one.

Can  I have your comments please.  I'm feeling slightly better, more like 50%.  I've been taking 2 Nexium now for almost a week.  Tried going down to one last weekend and paid the price on Monday.  He didn't give me a time frame for how long it would take before I felt good every day.   Thanks.

nancy,

How long have you been on Nexium?  Did you notice any stomach pain from it?  I too have gastritis as a result of H. Pylori. It has been erradicated, 3 months, but I still have intestinal problems. I am no longer taking Nexium, just Zantac.  I am feeling better but not 100%, more like 60-70%.  From what I have read this can take a long time. I personally had a hard time on the PPI's (7weeks in total) but everyone is different.
