ercp w/manometry

by genevamom1, Jul 06, 2002 12:00AM
Well, it's been a while and I'm just here to update my situation with all of you.  I finally had the ercp with manometry done on Monday.  They could not access my bile duct to measure the pressure and so the sphincterotomy was performed then and there.  I had some trouble all day on Monday with the same pain I've been having for over a year now but not as intense.  It went away and I started eating small amounts of fat, and this morning I had the worst attack yet.  My husband called 911, but I just went to the hospital to get some bloodwork that my doctor had ordered.  It was awful.  Fast and furious though.  It didn't last long.  I am so depressed.  I thought cutting that sphincter muscle maybe had fixed me.  Me and the doctor will talk again on Monday when he gets the blood test results.  I thought my stomach was going to explode.  I went to the bathroom and vomited this time too.  I had a hard time breathing. I was covered with a rash afterwards.  Within an hour or so the rash was completely gone.  I am really at a loss as to what is wrong with me.  My blood in the past has never shown pancreatitis and it looked good with the ercp procedures.  Any insight?  Thanks.  Oh, and hi Lor, you have been of great help to me as your symtoms resembled mine.

When I woke up from my ERCP w/menometry I was in awful pain. It turned out to be pancreatitis. After I was better from that. I continued to have pain in the same area  I used to althought it never felt like the horrible attacks I had before. I did have continuing diarrehea for about 2 months. I was told that was a reaction my body had to the bile in my intestines. My Dr finally gave me Questran to take at bed time - I haven't had any pain since. Keep at it they will find something to help you.

I have had a sphincterotomy and he did my bile and pancreatic ducts.  Although, he did tell me if I continue to eat red meat, gravey, high fatty foods, butter and anything else like that, expect to continue to have pain.  I have been good and not eaten anything that I have been aware of that is high in fat, but there are times I eat something that causes me to be in pain.  I know from that point that I can no longer have it.  Yes, we are limited as to what we can eat, but the alternative is pain.  I truly feel unless you find a doctor who's speciality is the biliary system, you are in trouble. Many of these doctors are connected to University Hospitals.  Chicken and fish is what you are allowed to have, as far as, meat goes.  My family physician has told me to back off on the carbohydrates, because it is putting weight on me.  I thought when my gall bladder was removed all of this would be history.  According to Dr. Martin, 10% of folks who have their gall bladders have SOD.  Isn't it special to be among the 10%?  LOL!!!  I hope some of this may help you but if nothing else, at least you know you are not alone.  Take Care!
