Concerned Lady--update on my son

My family doctor called this morning (personally), and he had made an appointment with a pediatrition for 11:00am this morning. The blood work came back (fine--as he put it) except for that elevated white blood cell count of 19000, normal being beween 4000-11000. Ped. said it is most likely from his throat infection, and perscribed antibiotic. In two weeks we need to get another blood test to see if white blood count goes back to normal.
He did not account for the sleepyness, sunkin eyes, thin body, sparkiling/tingling feet, sore legs. But said the lump in his neck is from infection of throat. He kind of ingnored all the other symptoms. He checked my son's hight, weight, neck for lumps, heart beat, stomach. That is it. He rdered a swab of throat.
What do you think? I think my son'e symptoms are being neglected. I will wait, but if he gets worse I will take him to emerg.

Dear Lisa,

I need you to answer all the many questions I asked you, late last night on the original message area below! Please answer those questions, because your answers will help me to tell you what I think you should do next! :-)

Also, I think that the doctor was NEGLIGENT, by ignoring the tingling in your son's feet, and by ignoring all his other symptoms.

I think (as I said in the other message area) that you need to take your son to some SPECIALISTS (see other message area).

What is the EXACT KIND OF INFECTION your son has? Is it bacterial? viral? what? Which part of him is infected (just the throat, or has it spread)? What testing was done to find out what type of infection this is?

What is the name of the antibiotic your son was prescribed? What are the potential bad side effects? Were you given the "package insert" (paper that should come with the antibiotic that tells you the bad (adverse) side effects)?

What area do you live in (state & town)? If I know of any good docs near you, I'd like to privately recommend them to you.

Were you warned BY THE DOCTOR & BY YOUR PHARMACIST that you MUST give your son PRO-BIOTICS (like Acidophilus & Bifidus, beneficial bacteria) by mouth, mixed with water, half way between anti-biotic doses?

By giving your son PROBIOTICS, you can prevent your son from getting a YEAST infection--because the antibiotic will KILL/DESTROY THE GOOD BACTERIA ("PRO-BIOTICS") in his digestive tract, and BECAUSE OF THIS, the good bacteria must be put back in.

Then, the good bacteria (probiotics) will compete for food with (or eat up) BAD YEASTS & BAD BACTERIA in his digestive tract, and this prevents or cures yeast infections & other bad-bacterial infections.

Do you have a good health food store near you? These stores sell refrigerated probiotics, suitable for children.

I'll give you more ideas after you answer all those other questions & these, Lisa! :-)

Sincerely, Concerned lady

Dear Lisa,

Thank you for your kind words, and your answers. Here are a few more questions that you need to answer, so I can give you more ideas:

1) How long has he been sleepy, tired, lethargic, etc. His whole life, or how recently, or ??

2) How long has he had ear infections, etc.? Does he still have the "tubes" in his ears?

3) Have you had your home tested for TOXIC MOLD, yet?

4) WHAT DOES HE EAT & DRINK, EXACTLY?? Please list ALL the things that he eats & drinks on a regular basis. This will be VITAL, in helping me to help you, to help your son improve his diet. For examples, does he eat or drink:

a)COW'S MILK? CHEESE? YOGURT? other "milk products"?
b)DIET SODA POP?
c)BREADS (made from wheat--has gluten in it)?
d)CANDY?
e)cereals--which ones?
f)which fruits?
g)which vegetables?
h)which nuts?
i)which seeds?
j)which beans, legumes, etc.?
k)which meats, fowl, fish?
l)which fats, oils?
m)any vitamin or mineral supplements?
n)any probiotics?
o)any digestive enzymes?
p)any herbs?

5) Regarding possible Celiac Disease, and other food sensitivities, go to http://www.braintalk.org and find the PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY FORUM!!! (NERVE DAMAGE CAN CAUSE TINGLING!!!) Click on the message by "JCC" about FOOD SENSITIVITIES CAUSING MALABSORPTION!!! I will go over there & bump it up for you. Follow the "links" to Dr. Fine's EXCELLENT WEBSITES about this. I suspect this is (at least) part of your son's problems.

6) Does he ever eat or drink things at another location, like a day care center?

Lisa, I do have some ideas from your other answers:

A) Get a referral to a good pediatric ALLERGIST!

B) Read a book called SINUS SURVIVAL, by Dr. Robert Ivker, D.O. This WONDERFUL book will help you to finally get your son's health back!!!

C) Get a referral to a good doctor, who specializes in ENVIRONMENTAL & OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH. This doc can recommend AIR-CLEANING MACHINES that can help improve the AIR QUALITY in your home. I will also post "some SINUS TIPS" for you, as an additional message, that will discuss this a little more. These "tips" are based on the book SINUS SURVIVAL, which is a MUST READ, for you!!!!! Ask your mom to read it also,--she sounds like a good woman!!

D)Bring your mom with you and your son, if you like, to the doctors, so that you won't be intimidated, and she can be the forceful one, to demand further investigation into the UNDERLYING CAUSES of all his problems!!!

E)ASK FOR A VITAMIN B-12 BLOOD LEVEL TEST, because if your son's tingling legs & feet are due to MALABSOPTION of Vitamin B 12 (and lack of absorption of other "B" vitamins, plus minerals, etc.), then, you would need to:

--give him Vitamin B-12 supplements (in a dosage that is right for a 4 year old), by mouth (under the tongue)

--give him Vitamin B complex supplements, by mouth, in a 4 year old's "dosage"

--find out what exactly is CAUSING these vitamins to NOT be absorbed in you son's small intestine. One COMMON cause is Celiac Disease, where the gluten destroys the little "villi" in the small intestine. The cure is going on a GLUTEN-FREE DIET.

To go on a gluten-free diet, avoid WHEAT, RYE, OATS, BARLEY, & BUCKWHEAT. Brown rice is gluten-free! Corn is also gluten-free, but is very "allergenic", so avoid corn.

I will also post "some GASTRIC REFLUX TIPS" after the SINUS TIPS, which will give you a lot of food for thought about how to help your son to get well!

Now, I hope my computer will be able to get back onto the internet. We're having local problems!

Sincerely, Concerned lady

Some SINUS TIPS:

SOME  SINUS SURVIVAL THINGS WE DO, that we learned from the excellent book: SINUS SURVIVAL, by Dr. Robert Ivker, D.O.  See page 9, References, in my website: http://cantbreathesuspectvcd.com

PLEASE READ THE BOOK SINUS SURVIVAL, by Dr. Ivker!, for MORE GOOD IDEAS!!!

(1) NASAL IRRIGATIONS: THIS IS DONE WITHOUT ANY CHOKING, AND WITHOUT SNIFFING THE LIQUID UP THE NOSE! My husband does these once a day. I do them 2x a day. When I first did them, I needed to do them 4x/day. We try to avoid doing them within 1 hour of bedtime (or lying down), because some of the irrigation fluid drains out later on, and we prefer to be awake and not lying down (when possible), to gently blow the residual warm salt-water out of each nostril. Keep tissues (unscented) handy.

  (a) First, we each bought a NETI-POT, an 8 ounce little ceramic teapot without a cover, from a health food store. Some people who do Yoga use neti-pots (hence the East-Indian sound of NETI-POT). This avoids potential latex allergy from rubber bulb syringes! Also, this is a gentle gravity method, with no dangerous high water pressure. And no electricity is needed!

  (b) We put about a half teaspoon (1/2 teaspoon) of plain (non-iodized) salt (sodium chloride, NaCl, avoiding additives) into the neti-pot. We like PLAIN, ADDITIVE-FREE, NON-IODIZED sea-salt (from health food store).

( c) We then add a little hot water and stir, to dissolve the salt. We use well water (no chlorine, no fluoride). Distilled water would be OK, but we do not drink distilled water, which can leach minerals (like calcium) out of the bones, contributing to osteoporosis.

  (d)  Then we add a little cold water, and stir, to make the salt water warm, not hot. (I experimented, until I found the most comfortable degree of warm temperature

Dear Lisa, here's another looong message (but worth reading!):

Some GASTRIC REFLUX TIPS (without acid blockers):

GER=Gastro-Esophageal Reflux. (Gastro=stomach. Esophagus=food tube.)

LPR= Laryngeal-Pharyngeal Reflux. (Larynx=voice box, containing the 2 vocal cords. Pharynx=throat, above the larynx. The larynx is above the trachea/windpipe.)

Reflux=acidic or alkaline stomach material that backs up into the esophagus (food tube), causing any of these problems: VCD/Vocal Cord Dysfunction/Laryngospasm attacks, cough, voice problems, asthma, globus (feeling of lump in throat), constant need to clear throat, worsening of sinus condition, sore throat, pre-cancerous conditions of throat &/or esophagus, etc.

SOME GER/LPR CONTROL THINGS WE DO, that we learned from the excellent book: STOMACH AILMENTS AND DIGESTIVE DISTURBANCES, by Michael T. Murray, N.D. See page 9, References, in my website: http://cantbreathesuspectvcd.com   and, also see GER/LPR info on page 5, and on LINKS page.

PLEASE READ THIS GREAT BOOK. It may possibly be bought on-line, from Michael T. Murray

He has been sleepy for about a couple of weeks. He normally doesn't like naps at all. Ear infections have been there his entire life, but now have gone with the tubes in his ears (which are still there). My home has never been tested for anything. He eats fish, porkchops, weeners, every kind of meat. He eats potatos (doesn't like them much). He loves fruit and vertables, especailly apples and grapes. He NEVER gets pop. He constantly drinks orange juice (tropicana). He rarely drinks milk, or has cheese, rarely has yogert. He is not a very big dairy eater/drinker. Yes he eats sweets. The regular kind that goes in kid's lunches (fruit roll ups...etc.) He doesn't eat chips or chocolate. He occassiojnally eats cheerios without milk, count chocula. That's it. He ocassionaly eats bran muffins (low fat). I eat low fat things often to saty in shape. I wash my fruits first by the way. He goes to daycare and eats means with the four food groups.

My son has swollen tonsels (bacterial I guess).
He was perscribed:Cefzil 250MG/5ml susp
I live in Sarnia, Ontario Canada.
Dr. Rashed is the pediatrition

Dear Lisa,

Thank you for answering many of my questions! :-)

I am very concerned about your son's symptoms, as I know you are. If I were you, I would take him to a good Emergency Room, in London, Ontario, now.

His need to sleep for 15 hours a day, his constant ear infections, constant "tubes" in his ears, his sunken eyes, tiredness, thinness, TINGLING in feet, and leg pain NEED TO BE INVESTIGATED by some experts, NOW.

Your family doctor is ignoring all these important symptoms, except the obvious throat infection!

I think the tubes may need to come out of his ears, if they are "seeding" continuous ear infections. You need to take your son to a VERY GOOD PEDIATRIC ENT (Ear, nose & throat specialist doctor), as soon as possible!!!!

The paint in his room probably wasn't as safe as the paint container implied it was. You need to find a way to safely ventilate his room. Maybe put a safe fan in his window, so that "fresh" air (if your industrial town has any!) can come in.

Investigate AIR CLEANERS (see the book SINUS SURVIVAL, and the "sinus tips" I posted)! Also, use a warm mist VAPORIZER (SEE Sinus Tips for details about this).

Lisa, I agree 100% with the person who recommended that your son be tested for LYME DISEASE (caused by some infected ticks)!!

I also urge you to get your son tested for FOOD SENSITIVITIES (SEE links to Dr. Fine's websites, by going over to the Peripheral Neuropathy forum, at http://www.braintalk.org and looking at "jcc's" IMPORTANT "THREAD"/TOPIC, called, "Food sensitivities and malabsorption".

A few more questions for you, that may help:

1) Has your son had any VACCINATIONS shortly before he got so very sleepy, and got the throat infection? (also called "innoculations", "shots", etc.) If yes, what were these "shots" for? Please tell me if & when, he has had this.

2) Which veggies does he eat AT HOME? How often does he eat them? Please list ALL. For examples:

a) carrots (VERY nutritious)
b) yams/sweet potatoes (very nutritious)
c) broccali (good, but most kids hate it)
d) green beans (good for diabetics)
e) tomatoes, eggplant, peppers (can cause arthritis to flare up)
f) corn (very "allergenic")
g) list any other green, orange, red, etc. veggies

3) Have you ever gone with him to daycare, to watch for EXACTLY what he is eating there? What might other children be bringing with them, that he is eating? What EXACT foods do they serve there? Please list a week's menu, and you still need to know which foods he actually ate!

4) Is he eating BREAD? (WHEAT has gluten in it)--at home, &/or at daycare? The cheerios have oats, and he may be sensitive to this.

5) What FATS & OILS is he eating? Please list. Which fats & oils do you use in food preparation? Do you use any, or are you trying to go on a zero fat diet?

6) Does he eat chips like potato chips, etc. that are processed with FAKE FATS, like OLEAN, OLESTRA? Is he on a low or zero fat diet?

7) Since he is so sick right now, is he still going to daycare, or is he staying at home? KEEP HIM OUT OF DAYCARE for a while.

8) Are other children AT DAYCARE also having repeated INFECTIONS? Find out. This is really important for you to know.

9) Is the DAYCARE building a NEW BUILDING? REMODELED? OLDER? Have there been floods or leaks there that could have caused toxic MOLD to be growing there? What is the ventilation like there?

10) Are there NEW MATTRESSES, NEW UPHOLSTRY, etc. at home, or at the daycare? These often have petro-chemical "foams" in them, that "outgas" (give off) toxic fumes, for years!

11) Do you use, or does the daycare center use "air fresheners", like sprays or plug-ins?????? These are made of "toxic (poisonous) synthetic (artificial) fragrances", meaning that they are chemically related to GASOLINE, but "smell nice".

Lisa, I urge you to take your son to the ER now, and answer these questions after you get him THOROUGHLY (but gently) checked out by some experts! Bring all these questions with you, to the experts, as extra food for thought.

Let us know what is done to help him (and what you do, from all these ideas, too!) by the doctors.

Sincerely, Concerned lady
