Diagnosed with Gastritis any help and advise welcomed

by glaucus27, Jul 18, 2002 12:00AM
I would like to ask the forum in general. I have been diagnosed with Gastritis, and absence and no sign of the helicobacter pylori bacteria.

My feeling is always of bloatiness, loss of appetite at times and nausea.

I have been given omeprazol, and mesalazine tablets and a couple others to try and reduce the inflammation on the stomach lining

Up to now i havent had any improvements whatsoever, and was thinking of a natural remedy such as juicing.

i have seen various postings from a person named Jennifer, was this your condition also???? i mean gastritis???

If anybody else suffers from gastritis I would be grateful to hear from anyone as to any herbal or home remedies which have relieved these symptons, or any other remedy which might have worked for them.

Thanks to all

Try a couple of caplets of activated charcoal.  It is harmless. Or a homeopatic equivalent: Carbo vegetalis 7ch.  Both are very inexpensive.  They work for hangovers, bloating, and often for an upset stomach

For bloating, and hiccups the fastest cure is to induce belching by tickling the back or your throat with the plastic handle of your toothbrush.  Barend

So the omeprazol is a generic form of prilosec. A PPI, which "Is" needed to treat gastritis. It has to be taken on a continuous basis. At LEAST for a couple of weeks. It's usually 4-6. I took my PPI (Protonix) for about 7-8 weeks. This, along with a bland and sometimes liquid diet will help a LOT! Now I'm guessing you have IBS, colitis, or something to do with the intestines because that is what the mesalazine is used for, not stomach disorders, but rather intestinal. I've had my gastritis since LAST August. It can, and often will, last months and years as per others I have spoken with that have gastritis. I don't drink anymore, even though it was only twice a month with the girls, no coffee, soda or ANYTHING that is down right "Bad" for you, or hard to digest. No smoking either. I'm now about 90% better, BUT it took a LOT of work on my part. Not a med here and there, BUT everyday like I was told. I did try it without and thought I could be smarter than the docs, but it just does not work that way with gastritis. Gastritis is serious and really needs to be treated properly, so do yourself a favor and do take your meds "Daily" as told for as long as told. Now along with this, alternatives can be used. Still juice, I do only in the am. I also eat small healthy light meals throughout the day, and NOT two BIG meals. Chew, chew, chew, because this is where your digestive enzymes kick in. Your saliva. So do chew and well ;-)

You just have to be smart and aware and know what's good for you and what's NOT. By doing this, you will get better. Time, time and MORE time is what it takes! Trust you me. Cheating will only set you back. Take your meds and be sure to eat plenty of yogurt to put back lost benificial bacteria. Good luck-

I am in the same mess that you are.  What I recommend is you that  spend 250$ and contact the following person; Dr. Maile Pouls at 866 424 4325. She is a nutrition expert who will do a complete analysis of your condition including a very thorough urninalysis.

With gastritis :

Did you loose weight ?

Do you have heartburn, sore throat, bile taste, raw tongue, abdominal pain : which is not effected by stools .

Firstly Id liek to thank those who have replied to my question, much appreciated. Ill try to answer as much as i can.

Barend I have noted down the Carbo Vegetalis thanks for your advise.

Jenn everything you said is basically on the right tracks ive been on omeprazol for about 3 months now same as mesalazine. I had xrays performed from my stomach, scanner and even an endoscopy were a anaethestic spray was sprayed into my throat which is the normal procedure.

Apparently I asked the specialist after the results came back if i had an ulcer or something. he said no where near that, but just Gastritis, so he discarded the IBS, Colitis and Chrons, especially the chrons because i have been suffering from this condition since i was 14 and i am 35, and from endoscopy he certainly discarded them all.I more than often have loose stools and feel bloated but feel slightly better with this treatment. How long does it take for the gastritis be removed fully?. Also I cant answer to you ref the mesalazine but thats what he has given me so no idea there...

I must say i havent taken care of myself as i love spicy foods which is detrimental and have eaten without consideration though not in cast quantities which embarassed me when i had to eat in a restaurant and when i ate a little i already felt bloated leaving nearly half plate full. i dont smoke which is one beneficial thing i dont drink any aerated drinks, just juices, and these past few days have totally cut down on tea and coffee.

If i may ask is this treatment Gastritis a lengthy process?

Buzzard thanks for advise also I have spend already around that price and even more as i have had everything done basically to the extent of the endoscopy so Ill see how it goes but thanks again

and Karie yes i did lose weight, heartburn very little i must say hardly any no sore throat, bile taste depends on stomach condition at the time, abdominal pain used to have plenty before starting treatment, now its much better but still have loose stools

Jen will this treatment make the stools harder???

Thanks to all for your help will be loooking forward for your replies or any other postings :))

Gastritis, like I said, can last a LONG time :( Sometimes, it never goes away. It really depends. When I had my endoscopy, they took a biopsy and this is how they ruled out H-Pylori. The biopsy came back as showing, "Chronic Inflammatory Cells". That's why they say chronic gastritis. The treatment has helped, but you shouldn't stay on it for years. Did they take a biopsy? In order to know if it's "Really" gastritis, a biopsy needs to be taken. They did rule out H-Pylori right? The medication shouldn't make your stools hard, but eating a lot of fiber will help to keep you in the right direction. After you eat, do you get pain at all in the middle upper part of your stomach? Also, when you eat and than start doing things, say walking, running out the door, etc, etc, right after you eat, do you get that pain? It's annoying!!!! Really try to take care of yourself and no spicy food for you.....LOL.....Bad!

hi Jenn

Yes they did take a biopsy infact a couple of them and when tests came back they did rule out the H-Pylori from the endoscopy results, thought it came out negative also in the stools test but the biopsies actually confirmed that the bacteria wasnt present.

About chronic inflamatory cells he didnt mention he said it was an inflammmation of the stomach lining which well could be that my wife was watching the endoscopy whilst it was performed and she said it was like a couple of lumps (inflammation). One thing is im worried for how long can one take these medications.

I do not get the pain after i eat i used to get like bloated though i do still get it at times but slightly i must admit

and well i try to relax after i eat and i dont get any pain just bloatness at times, what i did use to get is like some cramps on rare occasions where i just had to like either sit down or stay still and crouch waiting for it to go away say for about half a minute or so.

Jenn would be nice if you had an email where we could write to and keep in touch please let me know if this is okay with you...

and I'll give you mine,

btw ref spicy food hmmmmm well yeah :(( ill have to do without for the moment lol damn!!! hehe

Take care and thanks once again hope to hear from you soon :)
