Adhesion

I have had 4 abdominal surgerys and have adhesions.  They are very painful.  Is there a test that can detect these and if they are causing problems?  Can a PET scan help?

I think some places are trying to use MRI's to identify adhesions.  ct scans can only identify them if they are distorting your organs.  it's pretty much a case of eliminate all other possibilities and if nothing is left, chalk it up to adhesions.  I use gentle massage and stretching which helps somewhat.  I've had 5 abdominal surgeries and have extensive adhesions, apparently I'm a scar factory.  surgery to remove them usually results in more adhesions.  there is a test that can help determine if problems are due to inflammation or scarring.  crs, so don't know what the name of it is.  they draw blood, add a radioactive tracer that attaches to white blood cells, give you back the blood and then scan you to see where the wbc's go.  I think they use a fluroscope, not ct.  if the wbc's congregate in a particular area, that usually means inflammation.

have you checked out www.adhesions.org?

I think you and "bionic granny" should be talking to one another. See her post entitled "Incisional hernias" dated 8/31/02, below.
