Just read your doctors diagnosis. Often times they diagnose IBS when they really don't know what the cause is. I have been diagnosed with IBS also. I do know that vomitting is not common with this problem. I don't know if you have had weight loss but that is not a symptom either. Your problem seems alot more like gallbladder or pancreas. I would insist on getting those tested. It seems doctors just don't go that extra mile in diagnosing problems and it is very frustrating.
Went to the doctor today as the pain just wasn't getting any better and she ran a series of test that I am waiting for the results for but she said it was looking like IBS. What I am wondering is if anyone out there can tell me if the vomiting excessively with the severe cramping is a sign. I know the cramping is but have just never read anywhere that someone vomits with IBS. Anyone know?? Thanx!!

I would suspect gallbladder or pancreas, but I'm not the doctor. In the meantime, prior to your appointment, just in case it is either of these I would suggest a very low fat diet, stay away from fried foods, fat-heavy meats such as beef and lamb, and alcohol. Try to stick to really low fat, bland foods and see if that helps with the pain and nausea. Eat smaller amounts more frequently during the day, other than three large meals each day. Good luck.
I have had an attack like that several times, it was diagnosed as an esophageal spasm. The muscles controlling the esophagus will cramp. It hurts like the devil an just doubles you over for an hour or more then disappears. Usually brought on by spicy foods so I quit eating spicy food and the problem went away. As stated by others I'm not a doctor but I thought you might be interested in this comment.
Thanks for your response. I do have an appointment scheduled but can't get in for a few weeks and am stressing out waiting for the appointment and was just curious if anyone out there had any knowledge of what my symptoms could possibly be. I do have IBS but do not believe that this is from that but then I'm not the professional. Was wondering if it could be gallbladder or something more serious????
Your problems could have any number of gastrointestinal causes. I suggest you see a GI specialist and tell him or her of all these complaints, have some bloodwork done to check everything out, and get on the road to better health. Good luck.
