'undiagnosable digestive disease'

I'm 20 and for the last four months I've had severe ab. pain, reflux, chest pain, and burping. Anything I eat causes more pain. If I eat something unhealthy I'll have an attack which is so painful I end up on a liquid diet for about two weeks. I have tried every medicine and had every test. None of the medicines have had any affect and all the test results were normal. It's not my esopagus, stomach, gall bladder, pancreas, colon, or liver. My doctor says we'll never know what it is and maybe if I'm lucky it'll just disappear one day.  This is not a very optimistic outlook seeing as how i'm studying to become a chef. I'm going to go for a second opinion, but I'm already with the best GI specialist in town. Any suggestions?

I just had a disida scan 2 weeks ago for the function of the gallbladder, i have pain also in the upper right quadron under the ribs and around the back. Also had colonoscopy, cat scan 2 days ago, ultra sound of gallbladderand stool cultures for parasite tests. Nothing was found. But when examined by the Gastro doctor, he pressed under the ribs and i almost fell off the table to his surprise (and mine) So he called another doctor into the office and i was examined by him. But his feeling it wasnt gallbladder. He said the pain of gallbladder is an attack and goes away,my pain is there first thing in the  morning , and thru the day and night, i have even been awakened by the pain. I had been sick for 2 months, and have had bloating and pains when eating certain foods that shoulnt aggravate the stomach. But the doctors like many others have said, only go by test results and start to think these symptoms are manifested. I am highly lactose intolerant, which is something everyone may suffer from but go undiagnosed for. It is not just found as a milk intolerance, you would be surprised by the food that contains lactose or products that contain ingredients lactose intolerant people should avoid. Strange things like, cold cuts, chinese food, frozen french fries. Who would think to stay away from these non milk products. So for those of you who have not eliminated these from your diet, i suggest you try it, the symptoms of lactose intolerance is also the terrible pain under the ribs and around your back, along with gas, and bowel siturbances. Maybe it would help someone out there, who may suffer from this common problem. Which was undected by a few dotors till a doctor did a Breath test for lactose. Bingo! Instant diagnosis. I only wish this time , my newest problem was diagnosed so easily.....also started out with a metal taste and severe pain in the lower left hand pelvic area. I do suffer from crohns disease, but no activity of that at this time, another weird symptom, i have 2 white spots at the back of the tongue on the throat wall where my tonsils use to be........another mystery.

My gen. pract. is scheduling a gall bladder emptying test, which until now hasnt been covered by my insurance.  Any ideas on how successful these are?  It's the only test I haven't had yet, but I don't want to get my hopes up.

Another thing I just thought of.  A few months before my digestive problems I was trying alot of different meds for migraines.  Different anti-inflammatories and that kind of thing.  I know those can cause ulcers, but maybe they've done something else?

I've lost close to 20 lbs in the past few months, but this is because I haven't been eating much and what I do eat is healthy.  I'm not sure about electolytes, but when it all started, I was anemic.  I started on iron pills and a month later, my iron levels were even lower.  So I took three iron tablets a day (there wasn't a malabsorption problem), and it still was low.  Somehow it's back to normal now, but they're keeping an eye on it.  The Dr thought that I had internal bleeding somewhere and that was the problem, but was never able to find anything.

They ordered a C/t with contrast for me But with the increase in pvc's and heart tests and the thought of the iodine which will increase the hearts function. Oh How I just want to eat in peace. Happy tummy and heart. I wonder how the two function together ? How are your electrolites, Did you have weight loss ?

I was curious if you ever considered having an MRI done to try and detect the cause of your pain.  I was on Neurontin also for my digestive pain.  It really did nothing for me, but my doctor is recommending an MRI to see what is going on and I am debating wheather or not to do it.  It is very expensive. 2 years of pain is pushing me to say yes.

I agree, dont give in.  Hound them to death.  Be persistent.  If there is pain there is a problem.  Its frustrating I know.  just one question tho.  Ask to have your vitamin B level checked.  My body doesnt absorb vitamin b and this is what helps everything digest.  I started talking a vitamin b complex 50 mg aday.  Big differents .  Iam not a doc but like you have tried everything.  Think about it.  It might help.  good luck

Sometimes the problem is not detected in your first set of tests.
My sister had severe stomach pain whenever she would eat and this started in the year 2000.It got to the point where she would be scared to eat anything except a small amount of yogurt. Two weeks ago..after sooo many tests on her gallbladder and pancreas ...catscans..scopes...countless trips to the emergencey room, two different specialists all finding nothing, the first specialist said it was a broken blood vessel in her pancreas...this second test performed by the second specialist, a test on her pancreas where she had to be scoped again down her throat and he found a stone in her pancreas which he removed right away.
She is now able have meals with no pain...something she has not experienced in a long time. So get a second or third opinion until you find a doctor/specialist who genuinely wants to get to the root of your pain. I wonder how much harder and extensively this doctor would find out where your pain was coming from if he were suffering from it. But all he has to do is send you back home and take the next patient. Speak up and tell him if he can't help you, please refer you to someone who can or you should seek out another doctor.
Good Luck, virgo

Keep looking for help!!! If you are in pain look until a Dr can give you an answer. You have to feel the pain. All the Drs do is order tests and give you medicine - if they had your pain you can bet they would be looking for answers too.
