Is it Atrophic Gastritis? Please Help?

by MKIK, Oct 05, 2002 12:00AM
Last Dec. 2001, 6 monthes after I gave up smoking and gain weight of about 5 Kg. I started to have a problems alternatviely between my stomach and my mouth. I did every thing you can imagine. X-rays, MRI, blood work,HIV test, Ultrasound and finally and scope twice (May 2002 & Sept 2002) with two differnt opinion Chronic gastritis and Atrophic Chronic gastritis without any biopsy taken and Dr. said There is no cure for atrophic gastritis. I sometimes feel pains in stoamch and heartburn as well as fatigue and teethache. I am quite anxious about my health and Dr. also said it might from stress. Can stress cause atrophic gastritis? is there any cure for this conditions? Is stress is responsable about this problem? can it affect my mouth and toothache and some time itching in my mouth? I am afraid it will be progress to a more serious conditions like gastric cancer. The last Dr. recommend scope every year and put me one medication but I feel no progress.

I do appricate any kind help. (by the way I gave up every thing like fat, coeffe, somking, ...etc) as Dr. recommend.

Atrophic or Chronic you ask.....Well, you said the doctor said chronic without biopsy? Can't happen. If the "Atrophic" was diagnosed by "Biopsy" results, than that's accurate, but you can't get a diagnosis WITHOUT a biopsy. So if one doctor said chronic WITHOUT taking a biopsy, than he's wrong, and if a biopsy was taken and came back showing "Atrophic" like I said, than that's right. It's the biopsy that shows what type of cells are invading the tissue. As for treatment. From what I understand, atrophic gastritis can't be reversed. Yearly endoscopys should be performed and have you been checked for auto immune, anemia or H-Pylori, both can cause AG. GOOD luck ;)

You may want to try and make an appt. with an Immunologist!! Also, here's a response from a doctor that use to answer questions on this board. You can also try Google.com and search "Atrophic Gastritis". BEST search engine. Take care.

You are very welcome! I'd like to say one more thing. You mentioned NEVER having a biopsy taken during your endoscopy? Just remember, you CAN'T get a CORRECT diagnosis of Chronic Or Atrophic without a biopsy! A biopsy is NEEDED! Also, it doesn't seem as though you are taking a high enough MG of the PPI (Antacid) Also, atrophic gastritis can't be cured from what I understand, but without you having a biopsy, who knows, maybe it's NOT atrophic. PLEASE find a GOOD gastroenterologist in your country. Also, I've read many posts where others tried drinking potatoe juice for their stomach ailments and it's worked. I think this was used in  traditional chinese medicine. Perhaps you could give it a try. DO get to another doctor for a correct diagnosis. Good luck-
