ERCP without dye?

by catwoman2965, Oct 31, 2002 12:00AM
Has anyone ever had one without dye?  I guess then it really isn't an ERCP, but I am having one tomorrow, without dye, since the first time I ended up with pancreatitis.  The Dr. told me that without the dye I should be fine, that that is what made me sick.  I guess I am a little apprehensive, since I was so sick the last time.  His reasoning for doing it this way is he is checking for stones, or another polyp, and wants to be able to take care of whatever he finds then and there.  Just wondering if anyone else ever had this, and how it turned out. Thanks!

Hi,

I have had 3 ERCP's without the dye.  I had great success without a pancreatic attack for 2 of them.  My specialist (a teaching professor at UCSF) says the same thing.  It's the dye that gives a pancreatic attack.

Good luck tomorrow,

Thanks, I feel better now!  It's reassuring to know that someone else has had the same experience without any problems.  Now if I can just make it until 12:30 without any food or coffee!
