For about 1 to 2 months now I have had a dull pain in my in the lower part of my stomach area.  It gets worse when I eat.  Turns more to cramping.  Then I alway have diarrhea.  I have seen my doctor, and will go for a barrium enema next week. Any thoughts??

Just this past year, I have undergone many tests to figure out where my pain was coming from (in my stomach). I would always get cramps and diarrhea usually always after eating. I've also gotten a barium enema (horrible experience!), but it showed nothing. My doctor concluded that I must have Irritable Bowel Syndrome, since there was no evidence to diagnose anything else. I'm guessing that you might have the same thing. Does your stomach hurt more when you are nervous/anxious? I find it very hard to eat out with people, because I'm afraid of what I will feel like after the meal. In any case, I hope that your exam goes well, and hopefully you'll figure out what is causing the pain.

I have had abdominal pain now for two and a half months. I have had bouts of constipation and diahrea for no reason in the last 2-3 years that I never really put together until this constant pain showed up. Sometimes its on the left, sometimes its directly under the breast bone, and sometimes its on the right right under the ribs.  Sometimes there's a generic feeling of bloating or discomfort in my entire abdomen.  I have had CT scans, barrium enema (worst experience in my life, sorry), ultra sounds, blood tests, urine tests, prostate exam (in only 25, that was fun), x-rays...I've been throught the ringer and everything looks normal.  My doctor says IBS, I am just now beginning to believe him.  I have a lot of stress in my life right now:  I work in television, have a mortgage, refinancing investment property, had a cancer scare (turned up benign).  I notice on my days off from work the discomfort is not as bad.  Large amounts of dairy seem to trigger cramps and slightly runny stools.  Caffeine also doesn't help but that's a hard addiction to break.  I notice taking an 8 oz. glass of metamucil a night seems to help a little.  I am starting acupuncture tomorrow and I have also been doing breathing exercises to help me relax, they seem to help a little bit.  Sounds like IBS to me but by going to the Doc and getting the tests you're doing the right thing.  Ever since I had this cancer scare I have been a chronic worrier.  Every day I worry about something.  The pain seemed to start around the time I was getting a surgery consult for the tumor (they diagnosed as a rare form of cancer but turned out to be benign, f'ers).

please remember that IBS is a general term that doctors use when they cannot pin point a reason for your problems...

I have crohn's disease and took all the tests listed above, but I don't see that anyone had a colonoscopy.  IBS is not seen in the 'normal' tests that are taken, you have to be scoped...get

in touch with a G.I. doctor and schedule a colonoscopy, the worst thing they find is nothing, then it's simply stress related.

But Crohn's is nobodys friend and will hang on until you are on your last thread, and then you'll do something about it and can

end up with an ostomy and hardly any colon.....

Please get scoped!
