Anyone have this?

Hi

I have had upper right abdominal pain and swelling since August. I also have right side pain and back pain, right side only.  I have had every test imaginable (cat scans w/ and without dye, xrays, IVP, bloodwork 3x's and ultrasounds) they all come back normal. My next test is an Endoscopy.

The pain seems a bit worse if I am empty. I eat and the pain subsizes a bit. Food does not set it off and does not make me sick, my appetite is good so they have ruled out gallbladder although someone told me I could still be having gall trouble even though I'm not affected by food.

Anyone have any of these symptoms and what did you find out?

Thanks
Karen

Thanks for you advice. I know how you feel when you say you know your body is not right. I hate feeling like this, it's so hard to make people understand and some days I just cry from frustration of not knowing what is wrong.

Every now and then my upper back hurts so bad it radiates into my chest and I have to sit hunching forward pushing on my chest. Sometimes it goes away in minutes other times it hangs for hours on and off.

I am still seeing Dr's and will report back to you with anything I find out.

Hang in there-

Your symptoms sound a lot like mine.  I am now three and one-half months post gallbladder surgery and the doctor's have yet to find out what is wrong.  I have been referred to a specialist and hopefully will get some answers.

I have right sided pain.  Our difference seems to be that mine not only comes on an empty stomach but about 15 minutes after I eat it hits full force - starting about one inch below my last rib on the side and then following my rib cage up to my sternum, through to the back and then up under the right shoulder blade.

I have had:

2 sets of abdominal x-rays;
2 sonograms;
2 CTs;
1 MRCP;
1 HIDA scan;
1 liver/pancreas scan;
1 gastric emptying scan;
1 EGD;
1 small bowel follow through; and
Unbelievable amounts of blood work.

There may be a test I forgot - with so many you forget after a while.

According to the doctors they all have come out "okay" or "normal".  I am in the process of collecting my medical records for the specialist and am finding some interesting things I intend to ask about regarding my liver and kidney.

I had pancreatitis when I ended up in the ER to have my gallbladder removed.  I didn't have any gallstones.

Hopefully the specialist will agree to the ERCP and find out what is going on.  At 31 I know when my body isn't right and it hasn't been right since before my surgery.  I was someone who didn't know what the consequences of not having your gallbladder out could be and am lucky to be here today according to my doctors.

I don't see the specialist until 12/20.  If you find anything out before then post and let me know.  I'll do the same.

One thing my gastro is thinking is possible SOD (Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction).  I don't know if your doctor has mentioned this or not.

Take care and good luck.
