Blood present

by Tom30, Nov 28, 2002 12:00AM
I'm a 30 year old normally healthy man who's had a bout of diarrhea lasting approximately 3 months with no cramping.  I've been to my Doctor, had blood work, and stool samples done twice. All came back negative..no inflammation, T-Cells ok.  The past week I've noticed a small amount of red blood mixed in the stool at each bowel movement.  The urge to use the washroom only occurs during waking hours.  I have no problems sleeping thru the night. I'm scheduled for a sigmoisoscopy next week.  Anyone have any idea what I might have?

I think it would be premature to speculate on what might be causing these syptoms before your flex sig is complete. That will certainly give you and the doc a better understanding of what might be going on inside. Your blood work is certainly an indicator of activity but not necessarily definitive and that is why I say you may want to wait before any opinion is formed. Keep us posted on your progress and what is found if you wish. Good luck and take care...

About 15 years ago, a friend of mine (female) had the same problem for almost as long.  The Dr's couldn't figure out what the problem was.  Finally one of them checked for parasites, sure enough that was the problem.  She had a parasite in her intestines.  They treated for that and the problem vanished.  I hope this is your problem and you can find someone to diagnosis it so you can be done with this anguish of not knowing what in the world is the matter.

Good luck,

Thanks for your concerns.  I went through a colonoscopy yesterday and they found ulcerative colitis. It's been classified as mild and it will hopefully respond well to medication.  Started my meds today...3 tablets of ASACOL 3 times a day.  As far as I know I'll be taking it for awhile.

Thanks
