sudden diarrehea w/blood

by she2656775, Dec 12, 2002 12:00AM
Yesterday during the day I had pain in my chest up higher and on right side. Well in the middle of the night I awoke with pains in my back. Then the severe cramping came. At first there was no bowel movement and for the next 3 hrs I dealt with nausea, diarreha, and severe cramping. When it subsided I finally got some sleep. Then this morning when I used the restroom, I had a little diarreha, with thick bright red blood in it. I'm not feeling well and my stomache hurts. Can you please give me some kind of clue as to weather this is serious enough to go to the doctor, because at this time I have no insurance. Thanks! Sherry

Well blood in the stool is definitely cause for concern.  you should try and get to your doctor as soon as possible.  I'm sure preliminary testing will include a blood sample to test for any colon inflammation, anemia, or T-call count.  Also, they'll probably recommend a stool sample to test for any bacteria or parasites.  In my case, I was having diarrhea and in some cases small amounts of burgundy colored blood mixed in.  I did blood tests, and stool samples, all with no results.  Finally my doctor ordered a colnoscopy to inspect the inside of my large intestine. Sure enough..I had colitis.

Anyhow..any bleeding is serious.  Get to the doctor or emergency room.  It could be as simple as a hemorhoid inside the rectum, or as serious as a perforation of the bowel.

Hope you find out quickly..and good luck.
