Two thoughts:

1) Read about "sphincter of oddi dysfunction" at:

www.joplink.net/prev/200111/04.html

http://hopkins-gi.org/pages/latin/templates/?pg=disease5&organ=3&disease=12&lang_id=1

2) Ask your doctor if you can try an antispasmodic like levsin SL

Hope you feel better.

you can also do a search on yahoo or google.com under sphincter of oddi dysfunction.  I too have it, although I am female.  I have been suffering with it for almost 5 years and have finally (i believe) been properly diagnosed.  A sphincterotomy is one of the cures if you have that.  Another anti-spasm drug that I have been taking is Donnatal.  I am told it is the strongest one on the market.  It has been keeping me from the ER room since last July.  I am waiting to talk to a specialist/surgeon about having a sphincterotomy done.  Good Luck.

I had an ERCP/ scpinterotomy at the end of October. I felt great for 2 months and the pain came back.My gastro-doc suggested I try taking my Bentyl ( antispasmatic drug originally prescribed to me for intestinal spasms) and that is helping me.
