gas burbing, belching after eating

I recently had an upper GI,, they said everything looked normal, nothing Remarkable from the test. They gave me some nexium which help.. I just seem to have a massive amount of belching after eating can go on for hours.. Doesn't matter what type of food.. What else should we look for?

Ulcers, irritable bowel disease, GERD, or inflammation of the upper digestive tract can all be considered.

An upper endoscopy is a more detailed test than the upper GI. This can be considered to further evaluate for ulcers or inflammation.

A 24-hr pH study can definitively rule in or out GERD if the tests are non-definitive.

If these tests are negative, gallbladder disease can atypically present this way - an ultrasound can be considered to further evaluate this.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

These are the same symptoms I have...it doesn't matter what I eat - even drinking water - sometimes produces burping and belching. I am scheduled for an endoscopy in early October. I, too tried Nexium and it seemed to help. When the burping starts, I can't be lying down. If I am, its very uncomfortable and I get a rapid heartbeat. No pain - just the belching...and the rapid heartbeat if lying down. I'm glad I found this forum because until I read some of these messages I thought I was crazy because I have never heard anyone complain of this kind of symptoms !

Hi there,

I can't stop burping either!! I've got this 'lump' feeling in my throat and I keep trying to burp it up! I get heartburn, and numbness in my throat and bad indigestion, especially after eating. I've had an endescopy, barium etc.. all fine. But I have been diagnosed with an overactive thyroid - which is enlarged. I'm hoping that this is the cause of my trouble - it's been a year now and I feel like I'm loosing the plot now! Having a thyroid scan next week, so I'll keep ya posted. Hoping they can take it out and I can be free of this horrid 'apple stuck in throat' sensation.

Take care and anyone with any advice please let me know. x

CBunny, if you are diagnosed with Graves disease for your overactive thyroid, think twice before taking the radioactive iodine. I took it 10 years ago at 32 and have never felt the same. Better to try some of the meds first if possible--I didnt. Good luck

You could have gastric paresis. Ask the Dr. for a timed emptying test to determine.
