.I had gastric bypass 11/02. I am 48 years old. Have done well. About 1-2 years ago, discovered alcohol goes to my brain. I also have been on Zoloft 200 mg and Crestor 10mg. and recently Topomax 25 mg bid. Here of late my liver enzymes have been slightly elevated. My crestor was d/c'd. My internist wants me to go to AA. I am a functioning nurse that does not want to abstain totally. The enzymes were not high. What do you think. I know in a perfect world I should just quit drinking, but I am not perfect.
In all probability, what is the elevation due to, Crestor or alcohol? I drink about 4-5 beers a night. Thank You.

wolbachcIt can be both. If the AST is elevated over the ALT in a 2:1 ratio that may be more suggestive of alcoholic liver disease.

You can either discontinue the Crestor or the alcohol and see how the liver function tests respond.

Another consideration would be to obtain an abdominal ultrasound for further evaluation.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
