| louiec6683 4/21/2007 | . | I am a 38 y/o male in December I went for a abdominal ultrasound for slightly elevated alt 66. My results were negative except for what the radiologist described as a 1.7 cm hemogioma. At the end of the report recommendation was a mri correlation for small spleen lesion repersenting hemogioma. My gastro Dr said he has never seen a hemogioma in the spleen and he has been a Dr for close to 30 years. How accurate are u/s the tech called the dr in during the u/s and the Dr did her own looking which she stated "relax it not cancer". Why do they recommend mri if its states hemogioma?? what else could it be? My blod work is normal except for the alt and high cholestrol 240. I spent alot of time working at the world trade center site after 9/11 and I am very concered. |
| Forum-M.D.-KP 4/22/2007 | louiec6683 | I agree that a hemangioma in the spleen is not common. If there continues to be concern about a hemangioma, more comprehensive imaging should be considered. This would include a CT scan or MRI. Regarding the recommendation for MRI, if the area of concern is not definitive via ultrasound, then it would not be unreasonable for the radiologist to recommend the MRI. A cyst, abscess, or hematoma can also be considered within the spleen. The MRI should be discussed with your personal physician or in conjunction with a GI evaluation. | kansasgirl 5/29/2007 C1 | . | I am wondering more on hemangioma's that are found incidentally on a CT scan. Mine is less than 4mm. I also have crohn's and had a flare up, that is when the hemangioma was noted. My report also said it was benign. I am just wondering how and why I would have one in my spleen. I also have one in the L5 of my spine as well. I have researched the internet and I am not really finding much information. Any additional information would be of help to me.
