Question Title: AIH and Lymphocytes

Forum: The Hepatitis Forum
Topic: Liver - other

I was just curious to know if there is any significance in a low lymphocyte count. I am taking Imuran, which I can alter WBC. But I was sick recently and my lymphocyte count came out as 2. Thank you for any info you can provide. You all seem to be incredibly busy. Am I supposed to post on this forum. I noticed that AIH wasn't listed as one of the options. Thanks, Dianne. I'll be good and not post anymore until you all are caught up.

Dear Dianne:

It is good to hear from you again. You should list on this forum. I really want all the questions having to do with liver problems with the exception of gallstone problems. We would always be very interested in questions about autoimmune hepatitis.

Your question is an excellent one. Both imuran and viral infections can drive down the white count. When we have a patient on imuran who becomes infected we monitor the white count very closely to make sure it does not go down to dangerous levels. Sometimes, we have to back of on the imuran dose. Hopefully, your lymphocyte count will bounce back as you recover from your recent sickness.

As always, I enjoy your letters. If you have additional questions or more information, feel free to post the material back to MEDHELP or you are always welcome to contact us directly at Henry Ford at (313) 916-8865.
